Final Project - Building in an Urban Context

After living, thinking, and drawing the context of Rome for nearly four months, each student presented a proposal for a building that fit within their Urban Design proposal. The building - a public bath, library, or museum - addressed the scale of the city down to the scale of the individual. Political infrastructure, historical behaviors, social tendencies and spatial precedent were all valid points of view when looking at how this project might fit within 2008 Rome. Emotional values, tactile details, and studies of traffic movement or daily time all influenced the development of details. The solutions are modern answers that bear heavily on the lessons absorbed during walks and talks in this ancient city.
